Halloween may still be a few months away, but it’s never too early to start planning fun costume ideas for the holiday or for any costume parties that may pop up earlier. 2015 is a little over halfway finished now, yet has already provided a wide range of inspiration from its film releases. From summer blockbusters like Ant-Man to box office successes like Mad Max, there’s certainly no shortage of cinematic costume ideas for young and old alike. Here are a few of the year’s most fancy dress-ready films, to help give you some ideas!

One of the summer’s highest grossing blockbusters thus far has been Jurassic World, starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. Cop Pratt’s style in the film as outdoorsman Owen Grady with a safari style vest, blue button down workshirt, and rugged boots. If you want a more fanciful costume, you could of course dress up as one of the dinosaurs. You’ll find raptor costumes online already from a variety of vendors.
Marvel movies tend to be great fodder for costume ideas – you can never go wrong with a spiderman outfit! This summer’s newest superhero is Ant-Man, with his black and red shell suit and insect-like face mask.
A summer hit from Pixar Studios, “Inside Out” is a sweet, moving children’s movie that’s making fans out of viewers of all ages. It’s set inside of a young girl’s head, where five different emotions are personified to help you make decisions. These include Joy, Anger, Disgust, Fear, and Sadness, each with its own colour scheme and outfit. You could dress as the girl, or one of these emotions for a cute, whimsical, and standout costume this year.
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Another offering from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, “Avengers: Age of Ultron” features many opportunities for costumes. You could opt for a Captain America suit from Funidelia, or dress as Thor, Iron Man, the Black Widow, or Quicksilver among other comic book characters. These types of comic costumes are easy to find and available in many sizes, and have the benefit of being easy to recognize.
For a darker, scarier costume, draw inspiration from the Mad Max reboot this year. “Mad Max: Fury Road” thrilled audiences by never stopping moving. Dress up as warrior Imperator Furiosa, using dramatic face makeup, goggles, and a bald wig. Costume design for this movie involves a great deal of makeup, fake dirt, and layers of leather so you could combine these looks to create your own, unique post-apocalyptic costume.
On a lighter note, the “Minions” from “Despicable Me” now have their own film this year, and their instantly recognizable image makes them a very good costume idea for children. They are yellow, and wear blue overalls and glasses. You could make your own costume using these specifications, or opt for one that’s premade. These are available for infants right on up to adults, so you could even dress the whole family as coordinating Minions!
